You probably already know that the braces are a dental device that attaches to the teeth to bring the position of the teeth and the occlusion (bite) as close as possible to the ideal.
But, did you know, that the percentage of people who need braces to treat functional problems is about 45%? In addition, even more people may need braces to treat hidden and aesthetic problems.
In people who have dental and / or bone disharmony, various dento-alveolar malformations or occlusion disorders (malocclusion), dental appliances can significantly improve both the functionality and aesthetics of the teeth, with a success rate of 99% at our clinic.
Dental braces fall into 2 main categories: fixed and mobile.
- The mobile ones are used mostly by children, up to 15-18 years, with baby teeth or those with mixed teeth. They are made of colored resin, reinforced with metal wire. These can be removed during meals or for daily hygiene. Each device is unique, designed by the orthodontist for the patient's needs and you can choose both the color and the design.
- Fixed braces are used for permanent teeth and are glued with the so-called brackets on each tooth. In turn, these fixed devices are of 3 types, metal devices, ceramic or sapphire devices and can be fixed both on the outside and inside the teeth. There are also mixed variants, which are used by some doctors out of the desire to reduce costs, but we do not recommend this, because each material behaves differently and each has other advantages and disadvantages, the course of treatment being difficult to predict.
There are also two lesser known variants of the fixed orthodontic appliance with brackets:
- The lingual device, also called "incognito", is fixed behind the teeth, thus becoming virtually invisible, but this advantage comes with significant discomfort for the patient and difficulties in proper and efficient hygiene of the device.
- The Damon self-ligating device is a device similar to the fixed metal device, the major difference being that the spring (the metal wire, which connects the brackets) is fixed on the brackets, which look like small clamps, without the need for elastics ( the fasteners are pink in the first picture). This special system makes this type of device very durable and very easy to handle for the orthodontist. This way the patient will spend less time at the orthodontist.
But the newest and most revolutionary system for correcting orthodontic problems is in the form of transparent gutters, called "CLEAR ALIGNER”. After a virtual simulation and a detailed design, they are made of a transparent material, pleasant to the touch. These should be worn by the patient for at least 20 hours a day, but can be taken off during meals and hygiene.
Maybe you've heard of Invisalign, Spark or SureSmile. Although they are different brands, for the most part, they all work the same. In addition to the obvious aesthetic advantages, these clear aligner systems have the major advantage that they reduce the duration of orthodontic treatment even by half compared to conventional treatments. You will receive the set of gutters together with all the information, to use it yourself. The splinters change according to a strict, pre-established schedule, at 1,2 or even 4 weeks, and if you are a responsible and punctual person, there is no need to come to the clinic. However, our orthodontist recommends several check-ups during treatment to ensure that treatment goes according to plan.
Dental braces have a very high success rate, bringing you many more benefits for your oral health than a perfect smile.
At the Platinum Dental Center clinic you will choose together with the orthodontist the most suitable dental appliance for your case. We will take into account your medical needs, but also your aesthetic and lifestyle needs.
