6 things about dental implants that the dentist doesn't tell you. Number 3 will amaze you!

If you have one or more missing teeth, you've probably already gone online and started looking for "dental implant reviews" or "how much does a dental implant cost" or "cheap dental implants" and you're trying to make a good decision about the price of a dental implant but also of its quality. Considering that there are over 400 types of dental implants, the price of these products varies from 2-3 hundred euros to thousands of euros. If you want to read more about the important aspects of this choice click here .

We will present below 6 things that most dentists prefer to hide from patients. Why? The reasons can be very varied: they do not have the necessary information or qualifications, they do not want to waste time with explanations, some patients are not interested or it is simply to the doctor's advantage not to say.

1. Dental implant warranty - between myth and truth

Clinics that advertise on the Internet like to say in their ads that they insert "implants for life." It sounds very promising, but we will explain the reality, that is the truth from our point of view.

When an implantologist inserts dental implants and then applies prosthetic work over them, he integrates an element into a biomechanical system. A dental implant, made of titanium or zirconium, is a very resistant piece to masticatory forces, so that it will never break in a lifetime. Which, he rightly recommends, for the "Life Warranty." In fact, the manufacturer's warranty refers to exactly this: if the components of a dental implant - screws and abutments - break, crack or have a manufacturing defect, the manufacturer replaces the component with a new, identical one. The doctor, in turn, can make this change at no cost to the patient. From here we can conclude that the implant, which comes with a few years warranty, cannot be of superior quality.

But there is also the biological component, ie the biological material of the patient strongly influenced by his habits, and the problems regarding the guarantee come from here. How can it be guaranteed that the dental implant will stay in your mouth for a lifetime, not knowing what will happen to the patient in the future? What eating habits does he have, how rigorous is his daily oral hygiene, what vices does he have or will he acquire, what bone atrophy or other diseases will he have in the future. Of course, we cannot know all these things and neither we, nor any other doctor or clinic can give any guarantee on this biological component. Moreover, the Deontological Code of the dentist specifies the interdiction regarding the guarantee of dental works by doctors.

We fully understand the patient's need for safety. Therefore, each patient is informed in writing about the guarantees provided by Platinum Dental Center and about the conditions to benefit from the guarantee. How can we guarantee a dental job without contradicting the codes of good practice or honesty? Very simple! We rely on statistics from the literature, and we are always honest with patients.

2. Dental implants are like machines

We like to make this comparison, because this way patients understand much better what it means to have a dental implant and what is the difference between a cheap implant and an expensive one.

  • Like a cheap car, a cheap implant has the same features as an expensive one. But when we think about aesthetics, comfort, quality, warranty, subsequent issues and extra benefits, the difference becomes major
  • Implants also need daily home care and regular check-ups every 6 months. Can you imagine what your car would look like if you didn't wash it for 6 months? What if you didn't go to the service for 10 years?

3. When you need a prosthetic job, the dental laboratory is as important as the dentist

Although many clinics have a CAD-CAM milling machine, dental crowns and bridges must be made in a dental laboratory. Why?

manufacturare protetice
  • The manufacturing of a high quality prosthetic work involves several stages, performed by several technicians, each specializing in the stage he does, using several state-of-the-art devices. So it is crucial to find a dentist who works with a top level lab. This is the only way to guarantee that you, as a patient, will be 100% satisfied with the results of the treatments and you will have beautiful, healthy and functional teeth.
  • We have chosen to partner with the IDent Lab dental technique laboratory, a laboratory with wonderful people, with specializations obtained abroad, with the latest equipment and digital technology, which also works with prestigious dental clinics in Arabian countries.
  • You probably didn't know, but the materials, ceramic blocks and zirconium blocks, from which the crowns are made, must have a serial number, through which the date and place of manufacture can be identified. However, some laboratories use cheap and inferior materials, from China or other non-EU countries and thus manage to offer very advantageous price offers.

You, as a patient, must be vigilant and if you think it is "too good to be true", you better give up.

4. The expertise and experience of the implantologist can make the difference between success and failure

Nothing will make a bigger difference in the success rate of the implant than the skill level of the implant dentist. Studies show that the experience of the dentist involved is the most important factor in determining the success rate, so be very picky when choosing the dentist, on whose hands you leave your oral health. You can ask questions about his professional training in implantology, including postgraduate studies, specialized courses, and certifications.

5. New denture in a day? between myth and truth

You've probably heard of the concept of "fast dental implant", "fast & fixed tooth implant" or "fixed teeth in a day". This concept is often promoted by clinics and dental offices, but they fail to describe in detail the stages and disadvantages of this treatment, focusing only on the advantages and thus misleading patients. In fact, this concept means that the patient will receive his implant and prosthetic work - crown, bridge or fixed prosthesis - on the same day. This prosthetic work is always a temporary one, so patients will have to return after about 4-6 months to apply the final work. Moreover, most find out only at this stage that the price of the final prosthetic work was not included in the package "dental implants and teeth in one day".

Although, this concept can be applied in most cases, each patient is unique, with its own medical features. For the doctors at Platinum Dental Center patient health and successful results are always a priority.

Why can this type of dental treatment cause you long-term problems?

When the implants are inserted, their primary stability (immediately after insertion) is purely mechanical in nature. This means that these screws are not yet osseointegrated by the body so they do not have a biological connection with the patient's skeletal system. If a prosthetic work is fixed directly on these implants, ie direct loading is done, the masticatory forces exerted on the implant can produce micromovements that can affect the integration and stability over time of the implant, there are considerable chances of failure. It is good to know that if the load is loaded immediately, the patient can only consume soft foods and cannot overload the work to avoid the risk of breaking it for 4-6 weeks. For this reason, we recommend the delayed loading of the implant, where the lack of the tooth is not aesthetically disturbing, and / or the use of a mobilizable prosthesis for this short period.
